Rule 2.033 – Packaging

 

 

Except as otherwise provided in individual rate items, all cargo must be properly and sufficiently packaged to afford safe handling, reasonable and proper protection of contents and to protect against damages to other cargo or equipment.

 

A.    Hazardous or dangerous cargo must be packaged and labeled in accordance with C.F.R. 49, Parts 100-199 and

        ISO regulations.

B.    When packaging provisions appear in individual rate items, rates will only apply when cargo is so packaged.

C.    When no packaging requirements appear in individual rate items and/or paragraph "A" of this item, all cargo

        must be properly and sufficiently packaged to afford safe handling, reasonable and proper protection of 

        contents and to protect against damage to other cargo or equipment.

D.    Any single article which, from its nature, may be shipped without boxing, crating or wrapping and without

        danger by ordinary handling and stowage, will be considered as a "suitable package".

E.    All motorcycles must be crated.

F.    Cargo shipped in paper bags shall be delivered to Carrier in such condition as to protect it against damage from

        storage and handling, along with other cargo in any customary manner. Replacement bags, 3% of total shipped,

        free of freight, to be supplied. The Carrier will NOT be liable for cost of bags and will turn over to Consignee

        balance in its possession on outturn at final destination.

G.   Liquids will be accepted only at Shipper's risk of leakage.

H.   Perishable property will be accepted only at Shipper's risk of heat, decay, or deterioration.

I.     On all cargo, which by nature, is subject to loss of weight or substance through attrition, evaporation, etc., during

        the voyage, Carrier is liable only for proper number of bales, packages, etc., delivered at port of discharge.

J.    Requirements not specifically covered in this rule will be governed by the terms and conditions of the Carrier's Bill

        of Lading.

K.    Cadavers will only be accepted when received in caskets or body bags.
